5. Sampling:
5 % or minimum one container shall be randomly selected for sampling.
100 gm shall be drawn from each selected container and shall be mixed homogenously, called as primary sample.

6. Definitions:
Foreign matter includes husk, straws, weed seeds, other vegetable matters of the plant,metallic pieces, sand, gravel, dirt, pebbles, stones, lumps of earth, clay, mud and animal filth etc.
Damaged and discoloured means, roasted makhana whole or broken, obviously or internally damaged due to heat, microbes, moisture or weather or other causes
Insect damaged means, roasted makhana that are partially or wholly bored or damaged by insects.
